The ICBIE has forged a new bond of friendship, collaboration and sharing of ideals and ideas!
At the end of October, 15 members of Antagon, a German theater collective (www.pt.antagon.de and @antagontheateraktion) with a long tradition of cooperation and activities with Brazil, arrived at our hostel Piccola Ribeira. Antagon is in Salvador to put on a show as part of the project Escuna Criativa (www.escunacriativa.com.br and @escunacriativa) and has therefore opened up registration for theater training workshops for black youth, teenagers and adults from the Itapagipe Peninsula and the Suburban area so that together they can put on the play Akonis da Península which will be performed in the region of the Itapagipe Peninsula on and off a boat almost 40m long (the Escuna Criativa in fact!)
Two cycles of workshops have already taken place, the first in the spaces of Fábrica Cultural and the second took place (November 11, 12 and 13) in our spaces at the ICBIE. The workshops will continue every day from next week until November 25th, when the first public performance will take place at the Praia da Penha. Antagon’s proposal, in partnership with local artists and researchers, is a qualification project thought outside the box, with a bias that goes beyond the classroom, navigating in an immersion of Afro-centered theater where words are not necessary because the body expression, music and songs (strictly live) and dance already explain everything!
The ICBIE team is very happy with this new meeting and is sure that this is only the beginning of a wonderful friendship and future collaborations which will continue strengthening the dialogue and exchange between Europe and Brazil through the political and transformative power of art.
