Cineforum Dedicated to Anna Magnani

Anna Magnani Cineforum

The coming week will feature the culmination of The Week of the Italian Language in the World, with a short cycle of films by the great Italian actress Anna Magnani, who was born in 1908, exactly a hundred years ago.  On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening at 7 PM, the ICBIE will show her most important films, made while she worked under the directors who lead the highly influential school of Italian Neo-Realism: Luchino Visconti (Bellissima), Roberto Rossellini (Roma Città Aperta) and Vittorio de Sica (Il Gallo della Checca).

Unlike previous cineforums, this cycle was planned in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute in Rio de Janeiro and the major Italian cultural institutions in Salvador, Italia Amica and the the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), with input from Stefano Barbi Cinti and Mauro Porru.  By combining forces, such initiatives can reach a larger number of students; in fact, a total of nearly eight hundred invitations were sent, and we’re expecting a record crowd.
