Sunday, November 29th, the ICBIE organized a festive and colorful parade that wound though the streets of our district, Ribeira. to celebrate, together with others around the world, “Climate Day.”
The goal of the demonstration was to sensitize the local public’s opinion regarding the delicate theme of respect for the environment and urban decorum.
Unfortunately, when you live in a consumer society, too often you forget the importance of recycling garbage and ignore environmental catastrophes, such as those that happened recently here in Brazil, with the Rio Doce poisoned by toxic mud or in the Chapada Diamantina, a natural paradise that was devastated by a terrifying wildfire.
We marched in the streets and along the seacoast, arousing the sympathy and the admiration of the people, as we chanted slogans, “Garbage in the garbage bins!” or “A clean beach is life!,” “Save the planet!, Save Mariana!, Save the environment!, Save human life!,” “Re-educate, Re-use, become conscious to become better!,” and “We are always attentive, in every moment!.”
The event witnessed the active participation of associations such as the ABEAC center for homeless families, The Peninsula Rowing Club, The Citizen Circle and Bagunçaço, and along the route, Loona Tirabassi wore a dress made of plastic bags and she distributed others to the passers-by, encouraging them to clean up the beach, while little Julio pushed a wheelbarrow with popsicles in different flavors and lots of mineral water.
Upon our return to the ICBIE we ate delicious sandwiches prepared by our dear Rita Santos, and to conclude, we held a debate, coordinated by the architect Raffaella Grossi.
