The next to the last day of the Festival, Saturday, December 19th, was dedicated to the local community and to the important people of the Itapagipe peninsula who helped the ICBIE during the last ten years. There are many who deserved a Leonardo Prize, but this first time required that we selected only the following people: Flavio the official ICBIE taxi driver; Mr. Isidro, the mediator with intimate knowledge of property laws who unraveled the tangles of the title for the purchase of the ICBIE property; the wife of the irreplaceable Biro Biro, the artistic name of the deceased carpenter who made almost all the wooden furniture in our Institute; Antonio our trusted electrician, Mrs. Arlinda, owner of the restaurant in a little square in Ribeira where we all enjoy the delights of Bahian cuisine; Fabio, the first person that Pietro happened to meet in the casarão and who, ever since that year (2003) has accompanied the evolution of our institute with his technical assistance with computers, internet, sound, video and lights; Lu, our cook and helper for many years; Dina, the faithful collaborator who keeps the ICBIE spaces clean and orderly; and Carlos “Verdinho,” one of our first students and founding partner.
The Little Theater and Music Company of the ICBIE, directed by Pietro with help from Jamile, Eduardo and Alan, performed an unforgettable Navio Negreiro, from the poem by Castro Alves, that left a deep impression on the public with the intense emotions that it transmitted. Congratulations to Pietro, who, besides directing, also handled the role of lighting technician; to the actors Jean, Luiz, Gabriela, Mariana, Raissa, Lucas, Marlene, Jamile, Alan, Beatriz, Cely, and Neto; and also to the saxophonist Jan for the live music; to the music and sound effects by Roy; and, finally, to our polyhedric Ivanildo, for preparing the set and also for filming the performance, which can be seen on our YouTube channel from this link:
We saluted the public with a delicious plate of Italian pasta, expertly prepared by our eclectic director Pietro!
