ICBIE PROGRAM: APRIL, 2018 – BAHIA CINEMA AND CLASSICS
From April 6 to 15, the Cultural Institute Brazil-Italy-Europe – ICBIE, as part of the Point of Culture project of Ribeira, will hold another series of events and activities focused, this time, on the theme “Cinema and Classics of Bahia”. All events will be held at the headquarters of the Institute, at Rua Júlio David, 57, in the neighborhood of Ribeira, and all with free admission. The program promises to bring together a cinematic exhibit, exhibitions of historical archives, a history class, a book launch, poetry, music concerts, dance, and many other artistic interventions.
The films selected for the show were curated by Pietro Gallina, who prioritized the selection of titles by Bahian directors, such as a session dedicated to the unforgettable Glauber Rocha, and the relevance to history, art and culture from Bahia. Films like “Bahia de todos os Santos”, “Barravento”, “Raul Seixas – The Beginning, the End and the Middle” and “O Bem Amado” are part of the projection program, and all will have their exhibitions always accompanied by debates.
The programming of the event is subdivided by artistic-cultural languages to include all the “classical” manifestations of Bahia: so one day will be devoted to rowing and capoeira, with a meeting of athletes from this typical Soteropolitan sport of the Lower City and a capoeira and samba de roda with the Unicar Group and the percussive group “Mãos no cuero”. Another day will be for plastic art, where the Leonardo da Vinci International Library will open its doors to the viewing of its collection of classics of international plastic art in contrast with the classics of the Bahian plastic art, focusing on the Italian sculptor Pasquale De Chirico who made many sculptures in Salvador. There will still be a day dedicated to music and dance, literature and theater and another to photography, with the exhibition “The feast of July 2nd in Bahia” and the presentation of photos by Pierre Verger in the Me.Pe., Memory of the Peninsula. At the opening of the event we will have the History professor of the Federal University of Bahia, Milton Moura, who will offer an open class to the students of the schools of the region and for the other interested parties with the title: “The Bahia society, its meetings and disagreements, its advances and its impasses ”
The closing of the events, on April 15, starting at 5:00 pm, will begin with a show by the band Taiyo Ongakutai that will perform a repertoire of the classics of Bahia, and will continue with the Café Literário with the presentation of the last book of poems of Cacau Novaes: “Você não sabe do que é capaz” with the presence of the author and will conclude with the meeting of poets with the participation of Douglas Almeida and the block “Boca de Brasa” and interventions of Piccola Cia. Theater and Music ICBIE.
The ICBIE has acted as a Culture Point since 2014, and this project is financed by the State Government, the Treasury Secretariat and the Culture Secretariat through the Culture Fund of the State of Bahia.
