First Quarter 2019

First quarter 2019 at the ICBIE

The year 2019 has hardly begun and the Cultural Institute Brazil Italy Europe already records a large number of activities in this first quarter. January was dedicated to internal programming to define the activities of the first half of 2019.

February was the month of visits. Our beloved Loona and her family (Ronaldo and the little Kauê) came and animated the space with their presence. We received the illustrious visit of the new director of the Institute of Italian Culture in Rio de Janeiro, Mrs. Livia Raponi, who showed us the prospects of possible future collaborations.

In the same month, a workshop was held by the famous dance professor Paco Gomes, named “GriotLab – dance as a form of redemption of ancestral memory, using as a support the recovery of the myelin sheath and the study of Afro-modern hybrid dance”. The lessons were carried out in two days and received a great success with the public.

In March, after the carnival in Salvador, we continued the existing classes of the Italian and English courses with our dear teacher Marlene de Souza. Due to the lack of availability of other teachers, in this first semester unfortunately we could not open new registrations and new classes but, with a bit of luck, we will have great surprises for the second semester of 2019. Also in March, a Belgian student, Manon Coulon, came to visit us, with the aim of studying the volunteers of the ICBIE, interviewing most of the active collaborators of the Institute.

Manon1At the end of March, the ICBIE was the stage for the ceremony to award certificates for the photography course held between September and November 2018 at the Institute’s headquarters. The beautiful ceremony saw as a master of ceremony our Talita Sueli, and to compose the table Onã Rudá representative of SETRE, Marleide Nogueira representing the secretariat of the Federal Deputy-Alice Portugal, Carlos Augusto Rodrigues de Sena director of the Social Institution Mandacaru, Marlene de Souza president of the ICBIE, Jair Fonseca as a debater, Ismael Silva professor of photography course and Monique Oliveira representing the students. After a few short speeches, the students’ certificates were handed out and everything ended with a delicious coffee break.

To conclude the month of March and then the first quarter of 2019, the ICBIE as a partner of the arts offered its logistical support to the BTC (Bahia de Todas as Cores – Event of Graffiti sponsored by the Fundação Gregório de Matos). On the penultimate day of the event, the ICBIE hosted one of the planned activities of the event: the screening of the documentary “As cores da Serpente” (The Colors of the Snake), which deals with the art of graffiti in Angola.

This is just a brief report of the movements of the ICBIE in this first quarter. Strong emotions await us in the coming months!
