Last Wednesday, our partner association IMA Generation held its first youth event at the Charles Houston Recreation Center in Alexandria, VA, to recruit kids for its program of activities. The night began at 6pm in the center’s multipurpose room where the kids were greeted by adult volunteers and saw images and videos of Brazil (including a brilliant one made by our kids in Salvador especially for the occasion), followed by a performance and workshop by a local capoeira group, D.C.’s Capoeira Males, in the gym . Over 50 kids attended and most of them signed up for the program, promising to uphold a contract, “The IMA Lifestyle,” centered on respect and the responsibilities of being a global citizen.
