As we constantly work to recruit new students for our courses and to find a wider public for our events, local people, especially those who work in the city center and return after dark, keep telling us that they were unaware of ICBIE’s existence, even after many years of activity here in Ribeira.\u00a0 Wondering how this is possible, we realized that, for many people who work or study all day far away, but also people who come to get an ice cream or go to a restaurant, when they pass by in the evening, our Institute is shrouded in darkness and they don’t see it at all.\u00a0 (Remember that here in Bahia, it is pitch dark by 6:30, even in mid summer!)\u00a0 We thought about this in the past, but to adequately light up the facade, the high price of electricity was prohibitively expensive for our meager resources.\u00a0 Then Pietro got to talking with Pierluigi Guerini, a member of the new “Italians in Bahia” group, and it just happens that he is, among other things, also in the business of selling LED (light emitting diode) spotlights, which, despite their greater initial cost, consume only a small fraction of the electricity used by traditional incandescent or fluorescent lamps.\u00a0 Better still, he assured us that he would offer us a generous discount on the normal price, and so we asked him to set up a system for the ICBIE facade and for the side entrance to our classrooms, and the theater area that is also used for capoeira and dance classes.<\/p>\n

Last night Pierluigi came with two technicians, to show the effects of this wonderful new technology.\u00a0 We were impressed by the effect, and next week the ICBIE will show off its bright colors and lights, attracting lots of attention that should increase the demand for new admissions to our courses!<\/p>\n

After the demonstration, of course, Pietro rewarded the men with a superb dinner of risotto con polipo<\/em> (rice with octopus), to close the deal.<\/p>\n

…e la luce fu!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mentre lavoriamo costantemente per reclutare nuovi studenti per i corsi e per trovare un pubblico pi\u00f9 vasto per i nostri eventi, le popolazioni locali continuano a dirci che non sapevano nulla dell’esistenza di ICBIE, anche dopo molti anni di attivit\u00e0 qui a Ribeira. Chiedendoci come ci\u00f2 sia possibile, ci siamo resi conto che, per molte persone che lavorano o studiano tutto il giorno nel centro della citt\u00e0, quando passano la sera, il nostro Istituto \u00e8 immerso nel buio e non si vede affatto. (Ricordate che qui a Bahia, \u00e8 buio pesto alle 18:30, anche in estate!)\u00a0 Ma per illuminare adeguatamente la facciata, l’alto prezzo dell’energia elettrica sarebbe stato proibitivamente costoso per le nostre scarse risorse. Poi Pietro ha parlato con Pierluigi Guerini, un membro del nuovo gruppo “Italiani a Bahia”, e ha scoperto che egli \u00e8 un venditore di sistemi di luci LED (light emitting diode), che, nonostante il loro maggiore costo iniziale, consumano solo una piccola frazione dell’energia elettrica utilizzata dalle tradizionali lampade incandescenti o fluorescenti.\u00a0 Meglio ancora, ci ha assicurato che ci avrebbe offerto un generoso sconto sul prezzo, e cos\u00ec gli abbiamo chiesto di allestire un sistema per la facciata dell’ICBIE e anche per l’ingresso laterale, quello delle aule scolastiche e dello spazio teatrale.<\/p>\n

Ieri sera Pierluigi \u00e8 venuto con due tecnici, per illustrare gli effetti di questa meravigliosa nuova tecnologia. Siamo rimasti colpiti e la settimana prossima l’ICBIE attrarrer\u00e0 molta attenzione!<\/p>\n

Dopo la dimostrazione, ovviamente, Pietro ha premiato gli uomini con una splendida cena a base di risotto con polipo, per chiudere l’affare.<\/p>\n

O ICBIE trabalha constantemente para chamar novos estudantes para os cursos e para alcan\u00e7ar um publico mais amplo para os eventos. Mas os habitantes da comunidade local, sobre tudo aqueles que trabalham no centro e voltam para o bairro s\u00f3 quando est\u00e1 j\u00e1 escuro, nos falam que n\u00e3o conheciam o ICBIE, mesmo depois tantos anos de atividades na Ribeira. Como isso \u00e9 poss\u00edvel? Pensando bem em todas as causas poss\u00edveis nos reparamos que para as pessoas que passam por aqui durante a tarde e a noite, o nosso Instituto est\u00e1, efetivamente, na escurid\u00e3o e \u00e9, ent\u00e3o, invis\u00edvel!<\/p>\n

Temos que lembrar que na Bahia faz j\u00e1 escuro as 18h30, tamb\u00e9m durante o ver\u00e3o! J\u00e1 temos pensado nisso no passado mas para iluminar adequadamente a entrada, o alto custo da energia el\u00e9trica teria sido um grande problema para os nosso escassos recursos financeiro. H\u00e1 pouco tempo Pietro, falou com Pierluigi Guerrini, um representante do novo grupo “Italiani a Bahia”, e descobriu que ele tamb\u00e9m vende sistemas de ilumina\u00e7\u00e3o LED (light emitting diode), que, mesmo custando muito mais no inicio, gastam muito meno energia el\u00e9trica do que as tradicionais lampadas incandescentes ou florescentes. Melhor ainda, Pieruigi, prometeu um bom desconto no pre\u00e7o inicial de aquisto e instala\u00e7\u00e3o, assim pedimos para ele de montar um sistema para a fachada do ICBIE e para o ingresso lateral para onde se entra nos espa\u00e7os utilizados para as aulas de l\u00ednguas, de capoeira, de dan\u00e7a e no espa\u00e7o do teatro e cineforum.<\/p>\n

Ontem a noite Pierlugi veio com dois t\u00e9cnicos para mostrar os efeitos da maravilhosa nova tecnologia. Ficamos positivamente surpreendidos do teste de ilumina\u00e7\u00e3o e a pr\u00f3xima semana o ICBIE ter\u00e1 novas luzes e cores para atrair mais a aten\u00e7\u00e3o das pessoas e conseguir, talvez, alcan\u00e7ar mais inscritos e participantes das atividades.<\/p>\n

Depois da demostra\u00e7\u00e3o, naturalmente, Pietro premiou todos com um delicioso jantar: \u201crisotto\u201d com povo para concluir o negocio!<\/p>\n
