At three distinct events, the ICBIE banner will be flying high this weekend, just to show off some of the great organization and planning that is going on at the ICBIE Europa ONLUS office. The biggest event is our first Brazilian bash of the season at the Beba do Samba club in San Lorenzo, where a band straight from Salvador, Banda do Pelô, heads the bill, along with a performance by our friends from the Porto da Barra capoeira school and yet another DJ-set by our stalwart DJAmi?o. It starts at 8 PM and continues into the wee hours.
At the same time, ICBIE Europa will also be represented at a celebratory night at the Certosa, the social center in Pigneto that will be hosting our language courses. They have prepared a lively succession of readings and music, to top off a busy day—they will be participating in tomorrow afternoon’s big rally at Piazza del Popolo, protesting the repression of free speech enacted by the Berlusconi government. We are delighted to be able to join hands with this group of committed and passionate Romans.
Last but not least, at 6 PM today we will be present at a big event sponsored by the Borgesiana Library, and this marks our first official collaboration with the City of Rome’s Library System. Our Monica Bernardi will be unveiling her photo exhibition, realized together with her young student Andrea Ceci, that will be on display through October 7th. Her show is part of a large project called Linee urbane, which explores different kinds of photography and video art, with a common theme centered upon Rome’s sprawling periphery. In fact, it is sponsored by another group of new friends, the association centoxcentoperiferia arteinmovimento.
