From Salvador, the road is excellent all the way to Capim Grosso.\u00a0 But from the Capim Grosso exit until entering the city, you have to drive with caution, due to the dips and bumps in the road.<\/p>\n<p>As I approached the city, I saw that Jacobina is surrounded by mountains, broken by canyons and passes.\u00a0 The high hills, lakes, rivers, waterfalls and the vegetation dominated by native flowers, xiquexique cactus and other species, make it an excellent destination for adventurous ecological tourism.<\/p>\n<p>Accompanied by Diego (a member of Leila Almeida&#8217;s team), I spent my free time discovering the tourist sites:\u00a0 the Hotel Serra do Ouro and Alto do Cruzeiro, a place where there is a beautiful panoramic view of the city; the churches of Matriz and Miss\u00e3o; the Avenida Beira Mar, divided by the Itapicuru River; the caves of the Indios Jacob and Bina; and the Mercado Popular, with its wide variety of products.<\/p>\n<p>As for gastronomic treats, there are excellent restaurants, and I&#8217;d include the \u201cBonz\u00e3o do Bode\u201d, thanks to its simplicity, the tasty food and the owner of the establishment, who enchants his clients with his <em>gentileza<\/em> and <em>simpatia<\/em>.\u00a0 I can attest to this, as I enjoyed a plate of roast goat with boiled cassava, recommended by my son Markus Vinicius and my daughter-in-law Patr\u00edcia, who reside in the city and work for the Jacobina Minera\u00e7\u00e3o e Com\u00e9rcio as environmental engineer and nutritionist, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>A little history<\/p>\n<p>Jacobina was founded in 1722.\u00a0 Known as the &#8220;City of Gold&#8221; \u2014 after gold was discovered there at the beginning of the 17th century, its mines attracted the Portuguese and the <em>bandeirantes paulistas<\/em> \u2014 it possesses a valuable historic, cultural and natural patrimony and was the scene of important moments in Brazilian history.\u00a0 Its name is of indigenous origin and means &#8220;Open Field&#8221; or &#8220;Wide Field&#8221;, moreover, there is a legend that says that in the ground of Jacobina lives an Indios couple, Jacob and Bina, and the combination of their names gives Jacobina.\u00a0 At the present, the mining business is by Yamana Gold, through the Jacobina Minera\u00e7\u00e3o e Com\u00e9rcio (JMC), which operates the gold extraction in the city.<\/p>\n<p>The magnificent view of the Alto do Cruzeiro, which spreads across an arc of more than 200 degrees, can be seen from any point in the city.\u00a0 One of the principal events of Jacobina is the Penitential Walk, previously called the <em>Caminhada da Luz<\/em> (walk of light), a name altered by Brother Jo\u00e3o Zacarias of the Santo Ant\u00f4nio parish.\u00a0 The <em>festa<\/em> is a spectacle of Christian faith for Catholics, culminating with thousands of faithful who wind their way up in the direction of Alto do Cruzeiro, carrying lighted torches and forming a living serpent of light and fire.<\/p>\n<p>Text and photos by Paranagu\u00e1.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Alto do Cruzeiro\" href=\"http:\/\/www.icbie.net\/blog_old\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/vista-da-cidade-e-do-als.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Alto do Cruzeiro\" src=\"http:\/\/www.icbie.net\/blog_old\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/vista-da-cidade-e-do-als.jpg\" width=\"451\" height=\"301\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Old Casar\u00e3o\" href=\"http:\/\/www.icbie.net\/blog_old\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/casarao-antigos.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Old Casar\u00e3o\" src=\"http:\/\/www.icbie.net\/blog_old\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/casarao-antigos.jpg\" width=\"220\" height=\"148\" \/><\/a> <a title=\"Statue of S. De Salvador (Acesso Norte) at\u00e9 Capim Grosso a rodovia est\u00e1 \u00f3tima. J\u00e1 uma parte do trecho do entroncamento de Capim Grosso at\u00e9 a entrada da cidade, o motorista deve dirigir com cautela devido \u00e0s ondula\u00e7\u00f5es na pista.<\/p>\n<p>Ao me aproximar da entrada da cidade, observei que Jacobina \u00e9 cercada por serras, formando desfiladeiros e canyons. Os morros altos, lagos, rios, cachoeiras e a vegeta\u00e7\u00e3o predominante com flores nativas, xiquexique (Cact\u00e1ceas), entre outras esp\u00e9cies, tornam-se excelentes destinos para a pr\u00e1tica do turismo ecol\u00f3gico e de aventuras.<\/p>\n<p>Na companhia de Diego (estagi\u00e1rio da equipe de Leila Almeida), aproveitei o tempo livre para conhecer os pontos tur\u00edsticos: Hotel Serra do Ouro e o Alto do Cruzeiro, locais de onde se tem uma bela vista panor\u00e2mica da cidade; igrejas da Matriz e Miss\u00e3o; Avenida Beira Mar, dividida pelo Rio Itapicuru; grutas dos \u00edndios Jacob e Bina; Mercado Popular, com uma variedade de produtos, dentre outros.<\/p>\n<p>No quesito gastron\u00f4mico, al\u00e9m de excelentes restaurantes, incluo na lista o \u201cBonz\u00e3o do Bode\u201d, apesar da simplicidade, a comida \u00e9 gostosa e o dono do estabelecimento encanta os clientes com sua gentileza e simpatia. Comprovei isso, ao degustar um prato de bode assado com aipim cozido, sugest\u00e3o do meu filho Markus Vinicius e minha nora Patr\u00edcia, que residem na cidade e ambos trabalham na Jacobina Minera\u00e7\u00e3o e Com\u00e9rcio, nas fun\u00e7\u00f5es de engenheiro ambiental e seguran\u00e7a e nutricionista, respectivamente.<\/p>\n<p>Um pouco de hist\u00f3ria<br \/>\nJacobina foi criada em 1722. Conhecida como \u201cCidade do Ouro\u201d \u2013 uma heran\u00e7a das minas de ouro que atra\u00edram os portugueses e bandeirantes paulistas, descobertas no in\u00edcio do s\u00e9culo XVII &#8211; , possui um valioso patrim\u00f4nio hist\u00f3rico, cultural e natural e foi cen\u00e1rio de importantes passagens da Hist\u00f3ria do Brasil. Seu nome tem origem ind\u00edgena e significa \u201cCampo Aberto\u201d ou \u201cCampo Vasto\u201d, al\u00e9m disso, existe uma lenda que diz que nas terras de Jacobina vivia um casal de \u00edndios, Jacob e Bina e que pela jun\u00e7\u00e3o dos seus nomes deu Jacobina. Atualmente a empresa de minera\u00e7\u00e3o Yamana Gold, atrav\u00e9s da Jacobina Minera\u00e7\u00e3o e Com\u00e9rcio (JMC), faz opera\u00e7\u00e3o de extra\u00e7\u00e3o de ouro na cidade.<\/p>\n<p>O magnifico visual do Alto do Cruzeiro, com mais de 200 degraus, pode ser observado de qualquer ponto da cidade. Um dos principais eventos de Jacobina \u00e9 a Caminhada Penitencial, anteriormente chamada de Caminhada da Luz, nome alterado pelo fr\u00e9i Jo\u00e3o Zacarias da Par\u00f3quia Santo Ant\u00f4nio. Da Salvador fino a Capim Grosso l\u2019autostrada \u00e8 ottima. Ma per una parte del percorso, dallo svincolo di Capim Grosso all\u2019ingresso della citt\u00e0, il conducente deve guidare con cautela a causa della strada sconnessa.<\/p>\n<p>Mentre mi avvicinavo alla citt\u00e0, ho notato che Jacobina \u00e8 circondata da montagne che formano gole e canyon. Alte colline, laghi, fiumi, cascate e la predominante vegetazione di fiori autoctoni, xiquexique (Cactus), tra le altre specie, sono eccellenti mete per la pratica del turismo ecologico e per esplorazioni.<\/p>\n<p>In compagnia di Diego (stagista del gruppo di Leila Almeida), ho sfruttato il tempo libero per visitare i punti turistici: Hotel Serra do Ouro e o Alto do Cruzeiro, luoghi da dove si ha una vista panoramica della citt\u00e0; chiese della Matriz e Miss\u00e3o; Avenida Beira Mar, divisa dal Rio Itapicuru; grotte degli \u00edndios Jacob e Bina; Mercado Popular, con una variet\u00e0 di prodotti, tra gli altri.<\/p>\n<p>Sotto l\u2019aspetto gastronomico, oltre a eccellenti ristoranti, inclusi nella lista \u201cBonz\u00e3o do Bode\u201d, e semplicit\u00e0 a parte, il cibo \u00e8 delizioso e il proprietario del locale incanta i clienti con la sua gentilezza e simpatia. Ho notato ci\u00f2, degustando un arrosto di capra con manioca, suggerimento di mio figlio Markus Vinicius e di mia nuora Patr\u00edcia, che risiedono in citt\u00e0 e lavorano entrambi nella Jacobina Minera\u00e7\u00e3o e Com\u00e9rcio con, rispettivamente, il ruolo di ingegnere ambientale e della sicurezza e nutrizionista.<\/p>\n<p>Un po\u2019 di storia<\/p>\n<p>Jacobina fu fondata nel 1722. Conosciuta come \u201cCitt\u00e0 dell\u2019oro\u201d &#8211; eredit\u00e0 delle miniere d\u2019oro scoperte agli inizi del XVII secolo, che attirarono i portoghesi e i bandeirantes paulisti &#8211; ha un ricco patrimonio storico, culturale e naturale ed \u00e8 stata protagonista di passaggi importanti nella storia del Brasile. Jacobina: City of Gold I recently stayed in the city of Jacobina, accompaning a team doing an archeological survey led by the archeologist Leila Almeida, during the construction of an EMBASA public sewer for the city. Located 330 km from Salvador, Jacobina is a city on the northern edge of Chapada Diamantina. From Salvador, the road is excellent all the way to Capim Grosso.\u00a0 But from the Capim Grosso exit until entering the city, you have to drive with caution, due to the dips and bumps in the road. As I approached the city, I saw that Jacobina is surrounded by mountains, broken by canyons and passes.\u00a0 The high hills, lakes, rivers, waterfalls and the vegetation dominated by native flowers, xiquexique cactus and other species, make it an excellent destination for adventurous ecological tourism.
