The ICBIE party at the Villetta in Garbatella on Friday night was a resounding success, with a big crowd that turned out despite the unseasonably cool evening.\u00a0 Not only did the event attract many old and new friends, but also two important people from the Rome city government:\u00a0 Andrea Catarci, the “mini-mayor” of the Eleventh Municipality (the most progressive of the city’s twenty municipalities) and his Assessora alle Politiche Giovanili, Interculturali, Culturali e Pari<\/em> Opportunit\u00e0<\/em>, which would roughly translate to “Secretary for Youth, Intercultural and Cultural Politics, and Equal Opportunity.”\u00a0 They actively participated in the workshops given by Julio (live graffiti painting), Thais (urban fashion design) and Klebert (recycled objects).<\/p>\n

When it was time for the churrasco, the enthusiastic crowd devoured every last scrap in short order, Serginho once again showing his culinary wizardry.\u00a0\u00a0 Pietro and Paolo (–a pairing that wins hands down, with names like that), representing ICBIE-Salvador and ICBIE-Rome respectively, addressed the crowd, and their speeches underlined the constant growth of this magic collaboration, one that makes the whole ICBIE dream possible.<\/p>\n

The rest of the evening was dedicated to music, with our friends from Akuna Matata in rare form, giving a rousing performance that acted as a perfect kick off for Dj Ami\u00e3o’s extended set of Brazilian dance music.<\/p>\n
