On Sunday, December 4, the 5th and final stage of the Bahian Rowing Championship took place at Enseada dos Tainheiros. As usual, the Porto dos Tainheiros street, in front of the ICBIE’s building, was lively with locals and the supporters of the traditional rowing regatta in Ribeira.
\nFor the occasion, the Peninsula Regatta Club, the newest rowing club and to which the ICBIE has offered a “headquarters” in its garage since its creation in 2014, paid tribute to the late Pietro Gallina by dedicating a trophy to the first place winner of the senior women’s skiff. On the trophy is engraved a sentence from Pietro himself: “a society that does not cultivate education and sports is condemned to ignorance, slavery and fear”.<\/p>\n<\/div>

There was great emotion when the winner of the race, Marcella, who coincidentally is an athlete at the Peninsula Club and a collaborator of the Institute, spoke of the great connection that Pietro left behind and the importance of continuing the activities of the ICBIE in the promotion of art and culture and in the support of sports and in particular rowing, which Pietro always considered a very important cultural and sporting manifestation for his beloved Ribeira. Participating in the award ceremony and the moment of homage were the president of the Brazilian Rowing Confederation, Magali Moreira, the president of the Bahian Rowing Federation, Jair Fonseca, the president of the Peninsula Club, our friend and former councilman Everaldo Augusto, and our own Roy Zimmerman (co-founder of the ICBIE), Ivanildo Viana (current vice president) and Andrea Zeccato (collaborating partner).. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
